This Little Light of Mine

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:13-16

This is another verse talking about being the shining light in the darkened world. The first verse is very interesting though. I think that the salt is our Christian reputation. We Christians should have a good reputation on eath: of being kind and generous and showing all the fruits of the spirit. But when the Christian extremists get attention on TV, the reputations of all Christians go down. And it’s extremely hard to get back that good reputation, aka saltiness. If we let our Christian reputation lower and lower until it is a black mark, then how can God use us? If we’re making Him look bad, why not destroy us? We would be doing Him no good. But as Christians we stand out. If we truly believe and follow Christ, then no matter what, He will shine through. Instead of hiding ourselves, we need to place ourselves in the open so that through us, God can change lives.

Standing out is definitely one thing I can work on. As an introvert, I naturally don’t speak much. I’ve shared Christ with a lot of my friends; almost daily. But as for the other people around me? No, not as much. With strength from God though, I can do all things through Him.
